Architects connnecting to the natural environment
Other architects connect to the environment in unique ways. Such as Peter Zumthor, he looks at details from a different perspective and how each one interacts uniquely with the surrounding buildings and their details. Thom Mayne connects to the society part of the environment. He like to bring people together, and he combines his ideas with the buyer of the buildings ideas. Norman Foster uses natural ventilation in his buildings to connect with the natural environment. Antoine Predock uses local materials to build houses and then when it gets destroyed the materials all go back to the environment.
Other architects use eco-friendly materials, such as Shigeru Bah. The environment is the walls of his building. Renzo Piano also uses eco-friendly materials and natural light- he builds buildings that are sustainable. Other architects such as Will Alsop and Santagio Calatrava use natural light. Alsop uses open walls and glass to see the environment also. Lastly, Diller scafido+ Renfro differs, some are eco-friends , uses natural resources, and other resemble the surrounding area.

Will Alsop-Uses lots of glass and windows in their buildings.
Peter Zumthor- Lets in light to affect the mooding of the building.

Nature or Surroundings
sevral architects are in some way naturaly based. Steven Holl likes to use windows and make coridors bright instead of dark. NOX likes to use light to make rooms look large or cramped. Zaha Hadid is said to work around the enviroment. Norman Foster has designed natural air circulating ventsin some of his buildings.UN Studios uses natural light in their buildings to have more interaction go on between people.
Sevral architechs use their surroundings to influence their designs. Will Aslop uses his suroundings to make his buildings look distingtingly difrent. Ma Yongsong does the exactly the opposite to make his buildings stand out. Santiago Calatrava likes to take inspiration from the surrounding buildings. Thom Mayne makes his buildings fit in their surroundings.Diller and Scofidios make their buildings stand out from the rest.
sevral architechs use surroundings and nature to influence their designs. Antoine Predock uses the enviroment around him to design his houses.
Representation
Architects and Materials
Antione Predock is a natural materials person. Not like eco-friendly natural materials, but materials that have been used for thousands of years. Stucco and adobe are used in his designs to trap heat and for acustical barriers. Renzo Piano also uses natural materials, but more like eco-friendly ones. Shigeru Ban is also a good example for natural materials because he uses a lot of paper and paper tubes in his designs. His designs that aren't used with paper, however, are usually made with no walls. Ma Yonsong is another person who uses indigenous materials, like Antione Predock. Yet Yonsong uses materials from China, not America, and he uses especially bamboo. There isn't much said about JDS, other than he tends to use recycled materials.
Frank Gehry uses "junk". More specifically sheet metal, wood, glass, chainlink, and stucco. He liked to build things that were outside the "norm". Another person who really liked wood was Peter Zumthor. If he used wood, the whole building would be wood. He also liked stone, and if he used stone, the whole building would be stone. Steven Holl also uses stone, but an interesting thing about him is that he paints his walls white to reflect light.
Some architects liked glass and sharp modernity. Zaha Hadid uses glass because it allows for people to see her art, but she also uses concrete and some metal. Thom Mayne also uses glass, wood, and steel. Diller, Scofidio + Renfro also uses glass, but sometimes fogs it for a different mood. UN Studio uses a lot of glass, but they just mainly build according to customer. NOX is another main glass user. Will Alsop and Norman Foster don't have much said about them, but they like very modern and contemperary themes. Calatrava tends to use a lot of metal.
In conclusion, architects use a wide range of materials, it just depends on what they're tastes are.
My Topic Investigation Analysis on the 16 architects: society
Architects like Renzo Piano, Thom Mayne, JDS, UnStudios, Will Alsop, Diller and Scofidio, Ma Yangsong, and Frank Gerhy connect with buildings around them. They try to make things easier for the people. Ma Yansong connects office buildings and living quarters. Will Alsop makes multi - purpose buildings instead of a regular one purpose building.
Norman Foster, Nox , and Shigeru Ban build buildings that people who have been in Natural Disasters. Norman Foster perserves buildings from the1900's. Those architects are truly special.
Christian Hollingsworth
Space: Topic Investigation Analysis
NOX- 'Sometimes NOX makes buildings small and cramped creating a feeling that you are larger than life.'
UN Studio- 'UNStudio maximizes space.'
Antoine Predock- Designs are tight knit and compressed sometimes, but feel free and loose as well.
Renzo Piano- Creates thinner roofs, as if to hardly have a roof at all.
Shigeru ban- Creates wall-less spaces to just have an endless space into the natural or man-made envirnment.
Will Alsop- I am guessing that the color in his creative designs create, or distinguish the space.
Peter Zumthor- Makes designs very open with no direction so that you can walk freely.
Ma Yonsong- Always different in design creating completely different spaces and feelings.
Frank Gerry- Makes the most of the space by using unique concepts and designs.
Thom Mayne- Narrows and compresses space to create more of a cozy feeling.
Diller, Scafido, & Renfo- Creates large and different spaces that appear filled instead a blank area.
Steven Holl- Makes his spaces appear larger or smaller than they actually are.
Zaha Hadid- Creates dynamic, public space to unite together that has a feeling of well-being.
JDS- Creates different layouts for completely different feelings in each.
Norman Foster- Usually makes wide spaces that appear filled with light.
Calatrava- He places windows in unique places and makes very high ceilings.
My Anlysis on Our Architects: Representing Their Ideas
Out of our 16 architects, only a few of them actually paint or watercolor to represent their ideas, and some only do it for inspiration. Steven Holl uses his watercolor as a type of sketch, then perfects his design as the project moves on. Will Alsop is an example of someone who paints for inspiration and to show ideas and sketches, as well as Zaha Hadid.
A majority of our 16 of our architects make models, hand made or computer generated. Thom Mayne, Shinergu Ban, Norman Foster, NOX, and Frank Gehry who all sketch, Diller and Scafido, and then finally Renzo Piano, who has just recently started making models after many years of using sketches.
Pretty much all architects use sketches, especially in the earlier stages of their designs. Peter Zumthor, for example, uses rough sketches in the beginning of his projects, then moves on to more detailed diagrams later on in the design; and Antione Predock does the same thing.
Ma Yonsong uses drawings, while the UN studios and JDS use very detailed diagrams and 'good communication'. As you can see, every architect developes his or her own way of showing their ideas as their careers move on.
Floating Buildings
Another of Ma's proposal projects was Tokyo Island. The island is still in the design process right now. the island was designed to be a floating hotel in the water. The design is similar to the "Floating Buildings" Ma designed before. Based on the design, after awhile coral growing beneath the island while merge with the island showing that man can coexist with nature.

Adding on to the list of proposal projects is the Xiamen Museum. The museum follows along the basic floating building designs, except that the museum is smaller than WTC Rebuilt. The way the museum is designed the surrounding area will reflect of the walls of the museum and portray the surroundings. With light bouncing of the man-made lake and the museum it will truly be a jaw dropping site.
