All architects connect to the natural aspect of the environment in different ideas but in the same ways. Gehry for example built a building designed to capture the essence of a ship (in a port town) to show how it connects to the surrounding environment. Other architects such as JDS and Ma Yonsong likes to design their buildings in either the middle of the environment or design it so that it fits into it. My architect Zaha Hadid has concepts of architectural landscapes and she gets inspired in the natural land/area of the sites, and even in the geology. Steven Holl's relationship with the environment is similar to Zaha's, he bends his buildings to resemble places in the environment near the site. Un Studio tries to tie in the surrounding environment while still creating new ideas to prepare to make the transition into the future. They want to create buildings that push the envelope but that still fits in with the surrounding environment.
Other architects connect to the environment in unique ways. Such as Peter Zumthor, he looks at details from a different perspective and how each one interacts uniquely with the surrounding buildings and their details. Thom Mayne connects to the society part of the environment. He like to bring people together, and he combines his ideas with the buyer of the buildings ideas. Norman Foster uses natural ventilation in his buildings to connect with the natural environment. Antoine Predock uses local materials to build houses and then when it gets destroyed the materials all go back to the environment.
Other architects use eco-friendly materials, such as Shigeru Bah. The environment is the walls of his building. Renzo Piano also uses eco-friendly materials and natural light- he builds buildings that are sustainable. Other architects such as Will Alsop and Santagio Calatrava use natural light. Alsop uses open walls and glass to see the environment also. Lastly, Diller scafido+ Renfro differs, some are eco-friends , uses natural resources, and other resemble the surrounding area.
