Diller & Scofidio are big on light and space. They like to use a lot of it. The blur building is almost nothing but space. There isn’t much in it. The fog that encases the building creates an interesting effect of the light the sort of “blurs” the images around the visitors. The fog also allows images to be projected seemingly into mid air. The Facsimile building is a skeleton with glass skin. Light can get everywhere in the building so that during the day lights don’t need to be turned on.
when you go to an art show do you see a building? no, but does that make it not art? again, no. Diller & Scofidio may be architects but they are also artists. they make art that you can wander around in and experience. you dont just look at a picture or sculpture, you go inside it.
